An Absolute Gem Near the Airport! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We stumbled upon this place on our way back from the airport, and it was an incredible discovery. If you want to taste authentic Sivas Etli Ekmek (traditional crispy thin flatbread with minced meat) and Sivas Meatballs in Istanbul, look no further! Everything is baked to perfection in a real stone oven using incredibly fresh ingredients. The restaurant is spotless, and the hospitality is outstanding; the staff are genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming. Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious, high-quality food and a cozy atmosphere near the airport!

Spice Bazaar

A beautiful sensory overload, but step outside the building for the best local prices!

The Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar) is a spectacular sensory experience. The moment you step through the gates, you are hit with the incredible aromas of fresh spices, roasted coffee, and herbal teas. It is much smaller and easier to navigate than the Grand Bazaar, featuring a beautiful L-shaped layout with colorful pyramids of spices, dried fruits, and high-quality Turkish delight. Entry is completely free, and unlike the Grand Bazaar, it is conveniently open on Sundays The Inside vs. Outside Price: Prices inside the historical building are heavily targeted toward tourists and can be quite expensive. If you want to buy spices, nuts, or coffee at local prices, walk out to the narrow shopping streets just outside the bazaar's side doors. The Famous Coffee Queue: Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, Istanbul's most iconic coffee roaster, is located right on the outer corner of the bazaar. The line looks intimidatingly long, but it moves incredibly fast. Don't leave without buying a fresh, warm packet of Turkish coffee.Taste Before Spending: Authentic, high-quality Turkish delight (Lokum) is cut fresh and sold by weight. Reputable vendors will always offer you a sample to taste before you buy. If a shop won't let you try it, move on to the next one.No Hard Selling: Vendors here are generally very welcoming and a bit more relaxed compared to the intense sales tactics at the Grand Bazaar. Bargaining is expected for souvenirs, but food and spice prices per kilo are usually fixed. It is vibrant, chaotic, and incredibly photogenic—a mandatory culinary stop in Eminonu!"

A massive journey into Ottoman history, but don't skip the Harem and remember it's closed on Tuesdays!

If you want to understand the scale and power of the Ottoman Empire, Topkapi Palace is the place to go. Unlike European palaces that are usually just one massive building, Topkapi is a sprawling complex divided into four beautiful courtyards with gardens, pavilions, and holy relics. The views of the Bosphorus from the fourth courtyard are absolutely incredible and worth the walk alone! As of my visit, ticket pricing for foreign tourists has changed to a fixed Combined Ticket which costs 2,750 TL. The good news is that this ticket automatically includes the main palace grounds, the Hagia Irene church, AND the famous Harem section. Definitely do not skip the Harem; the intricate tile work and the history of how the Sultan's family lived was the absolute highlight of my entire day. Crucial tips for anyone planning to visit:The Tuesday Trap: Make sure you plan your itinerary correctly because Topkapi Palace is completely closed on Tuesdays. I saw several confused tourists outside the gates who didn't check the calendar!Audio Guide & ID: A free audio guide is included with your ticket, which is great because there aren't many English signs inside. However, they require an official ID or Passport as a deposit to give you the device. Make sure you carry your physical passport with you; they won't accept a photo of it on your phone!Wear Comfortable Shoes: You will be doing a massive amount of walking on uneven cobblestones. It took me nearly 3.5 hours to see everything without rushing.
