Bayburt is a small northeastern city on the historic Silk Road, surrounded by mountains, highlands and river valleys. Its castle, traditional culture and contemporary Baksı Museum create an unusual combination.
June to September provides the easiest access to highlands and countryside. Winters are long, cold and often snowy.
The center is manageable by local transport, but a car or driver is valuable for Baksı Museum, Aydıntepe and natural attractions.
