Located along Eskişehir Road in Ankara, near the Presidency of Religious Affairs complex, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque is a notable example of contemporary Turkish mosque architecture. It is named after Ahmet Hamdi Akseki, a respected scholar known for his contributions to religious thought and education.
The mosque’s expansive central dome, spacious interior and design inspired by traditional Islamic architecture give the building both a monumental presence and a sense of simplicity. Inside, the eye is drawn toward the dome, while calligraphic details and the distribution of natural light contribute to the atmosphere. Despite its considerable scale, the space is designed to provide a calm setting for prayer and reflection.
Unlike the historic mosques clustered around Ankara’s old town, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque represents the architectural development of the modern capital. It is worth visiting for travellers interested in architecture, Islamic art and contemporary religious buildings in Türkiye. Visitors should respect prayer times and local mosque etiquette.
