Amasya is a compact historic city set along the Yeşilırmak River beneath steep cliffs. Ottoman houses, royal rock tombs and waterside walks make it one of northern Türkiye's most atmospheric small-city destinations.
Spring and early autumn are ideal for walking. Summer afternoons can be hot, and winter conditions may make steep routes slippery.
Most central attractions are within walking distance. Taxis or minibuses are useful for elevated sites and places outside the historic center.
